India's leading Bank, HDFC Bank's ATM Network and Online Banking operations have collapsed for more than 18 hours now. Cash could not be withdrawn from ATM. We tried accessing the HDFC Online Banking for urgent fund transfer but have been getting this message of regret.
HDFC Bank in a Press Release acknowledged and said,

The bank experienced a technical problem in one of its system applications catering to its retail customers, affecting certain services. The bank's other systems like corporate banking, depository, treasury, credit cards etc functioned normally.

So that means its Credit Card swiping machines at vendor locations are just working fine. If you are facing accessing any of their services do leave a comment including the city + other details where you tried.

Google the "Do No Evil Company", has punched directly into the face of Microsoft yet again by launching its own Web Browser under the brand Chrome. Chrome is an Open Source Project and was actually available on Google Gears for sometime now. However, Google has taken it offline in the past 12 hours for unknown reasons.

In June we had FireFox 3.0 setting a new world record for the highest number of downloads which proved to be a truly a world class product. Can Google beat FireFox 3.0 or atleast stay upto its customers expectations ? Download, Install and then let us know what you think of Google Chrome. You can also make calls from Mobile IM clients like Mundu thus saving on your mobile / wireline telephone bills. This is a real blessing for long distance Romeos and Juliets to talk unlimited hours. Until now only Reliance offered Onnet unlimited talk-time on certain plans, however, it is likely that most Telecom companies will now introduce calling cards to grab market share.

Google Hints about Trillion Pages in its Cache

A day after Cuill released its Search Engine to the Public with 126 billion pages in cache, Google's Search Engineers / Scientists have quietly posted a blog saying that they map more than a Trillion URLs filtering out all the duplicates leave them with Trillion unique ones.

Cuill sure addresses the problem of fast crawling and Indexing but they are worse than Microsoft in presenting relevant information. Also Google now has the World's largest super computing system beating IBM, Pentagon, NASA and other US defense related projects. The Web is adding approximately few hundred million unique pages every day. Kindly note that the way we Produce and Consume Media in the next 10 years will be entirely different and traditional means will be History.

Google is now massively focusing on the World's largest Internet Market - China to Index and Serve localized content. Anyone else other than Cuill to challenge the mighty Google ?

Cuil Search Engine - Box Office Flop for Now

Box Office Flops don't matter much in the world of Web 2.0. They always have a chance to make a come back as we are either in Spiral or Waterfall Model of Development cycles. Two Former Googlers, who worked in the core search engine operation, really especially crawling and indexing have went live with their own search engine "Cuil"

Our first had experience with Cuil was not really good and so is the opinion of thousands of engineers and beta testers across the world. Quick bugs we found in the first 60 seconds of testing are,

The info / management page loads intermittently [yes sure, the site lack good content distribution network] Terribly slow to access here in India
ajax based auto completion of search terms. search results were really bad [ A search for Wimax Bangalore didn't yield this page] Cuil for now is excluding crawling blogs and web 2.0 properties embraced by Google
the engine failed to return pronunciation of its own name "Cuil"
search result page layout can be set to have results displayed in two or three columns with an image on the side

Cuil no doubt can crawl and index but Retrieving relevant information is a challenge for them. Well, maybe it'll be solved in few years as they are looking to pouch more Googlers who have worked in that domain.
