Google has enabled local search by means of SMS to give the power of information into the hands of more than 100 million Indians who use SMS regularly.Google Mobile SMS lets you search for local businesses [restaurants, pubs, retail stores, salon, etc], just like an yellow page on your mobile, train PNR info, stock quotes, currency calculator, breaking news, flight status etc.

Tata's EKA SuperComputer - World's 13th Most Powerful

EKA - The Supercomputer built by private effort from Tata Sons is ranked as the world's 13th most powerful cluster according to the latest review of rankings by Top 500 Supercomputing sites. Another Supercomputer from India - Param by C-DAC is ranked at 69.EKA is powered by Intel's EM64T Chips [AMD x64 is the equivalent] with Linux OS and Infiniband DDR used for interconnect. Hardware and clustering software is provided by HP. It has a peak computing power of 172.224 teraFLOPS achieved by 1794 compute nodes - 14,352 compute node processor cores. It has 28.704 terabytes of DDR memory and 40 terabytes of high performance disk storage.
The Top-9 are occupied by various research and national labs of the United States. China's Shanghai Supercomputer center managed to enter the Top-10 and is at the 10th place.
Google's core search is amongst the Top-3 supercomputing systems in the world. However, we think due to IP issues, the company is not competing for the slot.

According to Compete.com, 2 years after having launched Google Docs + Spreadsheets to challenge the Microsoft dominance in Office Software, Google has gained very little acceptance from consumers.
Average Unique visitors to Docs + Spreadsheets in Sept-08, was mere 3.1. Average time spent by users on either of these properties was a dismal 5 minutes. What is the Average time you spend to compose a letter in MS-Office Word ? If you are an Analyst then you could be easily spending close to 5 hours every day on Spreadsheets and Documents.
Microsoft also has launched an online office. We have in our personal experience found that Zoho Docs and Zoho Reports better than any available online versions of office productivity suite. For offline version Sun's Star Office 3.0 is a great product.

iPhone 3G sales continue to Rock in the US despite Economic crisis. According to latest report released by The NPD Group, iPhone displaced Motorazr V3 is the largest selling mobile phone. iPhone also beat officer's choice- Blackberry. Apple sold nearly 7 mn pieces of iPhone 3G in Q3-08.However, the going is not so good for Apple's 3G iPhone partners / Telecos in India. Vodafone Essar and Bharti Airtel together have sold mere 4,000 handsets in India since its launch on August-22nd. They got their pricing strategy wrong for the Indian market else they would have been able to sell lot more. Nokia N96 and Blackberry Gold are the leading competitors of iPhone in the premium cell phones market.
