Google continues to maintain its innovation in News Search, one of the most popular activity of netizens. Google has added a new functionality of searching news by location. For instance, if you are searching on what's the buzz about Shilpa Shetty in London, you can query in Google news as Shilpa Shetty location:London to fetch only results relevant to that location. You will get soem results. You can test the same by changing the location to location:Redmond and there will be no matching documents in the search results page.

Microsoft Rampage On Chinese Pirates of Windows OS
Sunday, October 26, 2008
The World's Largest Software Company Microsoft went on a Rampage by releasing an anti-piracy tool especially targeted at Chinese market where the PC /Laptop screen would be turned black if the user has installed a pirated copy.
China has the largest number of Internet users in the World and the market is growing really fast with rampant piracy and little effort from the Chinese government to curb the same. Some hardcore pro-China lawyers complained against Microsoft for invasion of privacy without any substance. Microsoft has argued with its own battery of lawyers that it has not violated any Chinese laws.
Microsoft is also offering steep discounts in China to convert pirated Windows and Office software into legal copies, but the company has had little success yet. If you are a Software Developer / Company, then beware before you enter China because they are known for pirating even Routers :-)

Indians go Hollywood for DVD Rental - BigFlix
Saturday, October 25, 2008
The DVD Rental Business which mushroomed in India in the past 18 months has a new story to tell. Most customers rent Hollywood Movies on DVD media than Bollywood movies, according to Reliance Entertainment's BigFlix. The myth when these companies started to operate was Hindi / Desi regional movies would fare better but it isn't happening.Bollywood movies have widespread release as well as the quality of the content is not good for repeated viewing. [Our Desi directors like Ramu must get out of the poor Blackmagic mood and develop some real good content] While in case of Hollywood movies, BigFlix observed that viewers have seen the same movie on DVD more than once.
BigFlix has been operational for over a year now and has really big plans in the home entertainment space including tying up with set-top box manufacturers to make their movies downloadable via Cable or DTH and play the same in DRM environment.

Are you a Geek with Gigs of Music on your PC and always wanted to listen to it on your Smart Mobile Phone on the move ? Didiom lets you precisely do the something very similar to what Shoutcast server did for remote playing of licensed music. What you have to do is download Didiom Desktop Application and configure the same [select folders containing music] The next step for you is to install the Didiom client on your cell phone and authenticate yourself. As long as both the cell and PC are connected to the internet, you can browse and listen to any songs stored on your PC directly on your mobile. You can watch the live demo here.

China Mobile Handsets to be Disconnected
Thursday, October 16, 2008
There is bad news for you, if you are using one of those cheap quality handsets manufactured in China without International Mobile Equipment Identity - IMEI Number. The Government of India under the National Security Act has instructed all the Telecom Service Providers in India to block calls to / from China manufactured handsets without the IMEI Number.Recent Terr0rist attacks were carried out using these Chinese handsets, said the investigating agency. There are approximately more than 16 million such handsets in India and the ban will spell a boom for Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, Motorola and other cell phone vendors. With festive season around the corner, the time of BAN couldn't have been better :-)
YouTube pips Yahoo for Second Spot in Search Queries
Wednesday, October 15, 2008
According to comScore, in August-08, YouTube received 2.564 bn search queries while Yahoo network got 2.427 bn. Google stand alone received 7.59 bn search queries. As usual, the Redmond Giant Microsoft was the biggest loser and struggled to stay over a billion queries - 1.02 bn.
Now I am beginning to wonder what will be the fate of Video sharing sites in India that copied the business model of YouTube :-)
