FREE SMS to any Mobile in India
Monday, April 21, 2008
The Indian Wireless Industry has grown rapidly and so have the Mobile Value Added Services segment. Today we cover two services that are offering to send free SMS messages to any mobile in India.160by2.com was the first company in India to introduce free SMS messages upto 80 characters and the remaining 80 characters will be used for an Advertisement. It has a registered user base of 700,000 and has reached more than 2.8 million mobile phones while users sent a whopping 13 million messages :-) Current limit is 50 messages per day. The site offers huge collection of SMS in an archive categorized by Love, Friendship, Good Morning, etc to choose and send on the fly.
160by2.com is blocked by many corporates in India and hence the company decided to introduce Free SMS from e-mail to Mobile to help its users keep in touch.
Way2SMS.com is another competing service like 160by2.com. This has an advantage over 160by2 since they let your message be upto 100 characters and the remaining 60 for an inline text advertisement. However, Way2SMS.com doesn't have SMS archives with templates to choose and send SMS on the fly. One another problem with thissite is it inserts too many pop-ups and User Interface is not up to the mark.
Should you know of ny other competing FREE SMS services in India, kindly feel free to add them as a comment.

Mobile India has an excellent review of Orkut mobile. The official launch of iPhone in India may happen in Sept-2008. What really sucks is you have to opt for a Vodafone mobile to have the same because of Apple's bad strategy of tying up with service provider. Expected pricing is around Rs 27,000 higher than that available in Mumbai's Grey Market.
