Microsoft Heroes Happen Here in India
Monday, March 24, 2008
Microsoft, world's largest products company which lost the battle for OOXML in India as the country decided to vote against Microsoft promoted standard has stepped up its Developers campaign in India.Microsoft apparently to woo the Indian IT community has launched Heroes Happen Here campaign. It is conducting workshops on Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008 at various places in India on the 29th of this month. You can register for the same here.
In a recent congressional hearing, Bill Gates termed the Indian IT developers as "A" Grade as they helped create "B" and "C" grade jobs for Americans. Now with the American H-1B Visa program in a state of mess, Microsoft will be left with no option but to hire and develop more products out of India is our guess.
Some Freebies will also be made available at the workshop and may get a ticket to be a Beta Tester for Microsoft products.

DoT bats for encryption code compliance for e-commerce
Wednesday, March 19, 2008
Finally the Indian authorities have woken up to enforce encryption standards for online transactions. [We educated our readers on Safe and Secure online shopping way back in 2006] Online banking transaction and e-commerce transactions involving credit card or debit card are open to Government surveillance. As per the law, all Internet based service providers are required to submit a decryption key to the government if they use more than 40 but encryption code to secure the transactions. However, many of the service providers have already resisted to Government's request saying,
We don't want to give away our commerce keys to leaky and flaky Government departments and corrupt officials as this will make our online services unsecured.DoT itself is not sure on how to accept these codes if someone goes forward to comply with their rules. It happens only in India :-)

Saturday, March 15, 2008
Hardworking and Intelligent Indians supporting global economies rarely find time to go and stand in the Multiplex queues to get a bit of weekend entertainment for work-life balance. These smart Indians have adapted to either Internet or Mobile as platform to book their movie tickets.
Time for some self Praise - We were the first to write about the availability of Online and Mobile Booking in October 2006. Since then many companies like Book My Show have tried to organize the market for convenient booking.
In an exclusive survey report published by AT Kearnery, it is found that 12% of the movie tickets are sold using these channels and is expected to touch 20% very soon. [This is only in urban Areas, and mostly that is where we have all the Multiplexes. It will take time to reach semi-urban and rural areas] Tushar Dhingra of Adlabs said,

Cell phones will emerge as the most important alternative platform for buying tickets. Even though it will take some time to get mainstream and will over take e-ticketing.Sure one has to agree with Tushar as we all know that Worlds most successful VC, Jon Doerr has said that mobile phone is the most important device and also setup a $100 million ifund to help startups develop innovative mobile applications.
Office Live WorkSpace + Windows Live FolderShare
Friday, March 14, 2008
Microsoft after mopping up companies in the online storage space is competing really smartly with Google. They have unveiled Microsoft Office Live Workspace to store and share Word, Excel, PDF and PowerPoint documents online. The service also comes with a Bulk file uploader to store multiple files at the same time.In a separate move, Microsoft has also unveiled Windows Live FolderShare. The difference between Office Live Worskspace / Windows Live Drive and Windows Live FolderShare is that the latter is about automatic synchronization and accessing of files. The former services use browser for uploads while the latter is a built-in service in Windows Vista and latter systems that sits in your system tray and works in the background. The only limitation of Windows Live FolderShare is that the maximum file size should not exceed 2 GB. Now will Google respond with an unlimited storage facility for consumers ?

HDFC Online Banking Adds Security
Tuesday, March 11, 2008
HDFC Banking authorities have realized that "Customer is the most important visitor on their premises" while India's Worst Bank - ICICI continues to operate in its own arrogance.
Not all of HDFC Bank's customer access online banking from Work [supposed to be reliable environment] and rely on Cybercafe or Home PC. We all know that Adware, Malware and keyword loggers installed on PCs / Laptops create havoc.
HDFC has designed its online banking authentication process to bypass the use of keyboard when you enter your IPIN or Password. All you need to do is use your mouse and click on the characters on Virtual Keyboard being displayed [as shown in the image above]. This significantly reduces the risk of your password being known to anybody else. Hopefully, they will continue to add more such services to enhance customer experience.
