Indians go Hollywood for DVD Rental - BigFlix

Saturday, October 25, 2008

The DVD Rental Business which mushroomed in India in the past 18 months has a new story to tell. Most customers rent Hollywood Movies on DVD media than Bollywood movies, according to Reliance Entertainment's BigFlix. The myth when these companies started to operate was Hindi / Desi regional movies would fare better but it isn't happening.

Bollywood movies have widespread release as well as the quality of the content is not good for repeated viewing. [Our Desi directors like Ramu must get out of the poor Blackmagic mood and develop some real good content] While in case of Hollywood movies, BigFlix observed that viewers have seen the same movie on DVD more than once.

BigFlix has been operational for over a year now and has really big plans in the home entertainment space including tying up with set-top box manufacturers to make their movies downloadable via Cable or DTH and play the same in DRM environment.

Interesting post. Some bollywood movies are really good but others are really poor, so its a bit hit and miss, i can see why this is happening.
