If you are shopping or banking online then you MUST look for these bare minimum requirements before you enter any details such as your credit card number or online banking id and password.
In the picture below, we examine ICICIBank.Com website. As shown, you should always look for "https" in the URL and the "safe secure lock" at the right-hand bottom corner of your browser window in which you will enter your confidential information.

However, for HDFCBank website a new window will pop-up and you won't be able to see the URL text bar which displays "https". So just look for the "safe secure shopping" lock at the bottom right hand corner of the window as shown in the picture below and even that implies the site is secure.
For any website where you wish to enter confidential info always look for "https" and/or "safe secure shopping" lock at the right hand bottom corner of the browser window.
